Interested in a US Honda Goldwing rental? Ahh, the Honda Goldwing GL1800, truly a legend amongst touring motorcycles. And with good reason – the rider and pillion luxuriate in supreme comfort, with superb weather protection, minimal vibration and engine heat, and just about the best luggage capacity of any motorycle on the road. There’s music on board, cruise control, air suspension, and an aluminium perimeter frame which provides sportbike-like handling. You honestly will not believe how well the Goldwing handles.

It is a big bike, however, there’s no getting around that. Unlike the Harleys, the size doesn’t seem to diminish once you get under way. We think the transmission’s a bit odd: 1st gear is very short, so much so that we usually start in 2nd gear. The Goldwing has a five speed gearbox; without that 6th cog, the revs can be a bit high at motorway speeds. But those are really our only complaints about the Goldwing. For two up touring, the Goldwing is the luxury choice. It has a bit less raw character than let’s say a Harley Electra Glide Classic, depending on your taste that may be a good thing.

Seat height is fairly low and the bike has great balance as itt’s six-cylinder engine sits low in the frame. Riders approaching the Goldwing for the first time may be a bit intimidated by the countless buttons on the tank, dashboard and handlebars, so be sure to pay close attention during the EagleRider briefing so you know how everything works.
